To Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness

by Brett Fuller on March 11, 2019

If one is desperately hungry, he seeks after food; if desperately thirsty, water. These needs are so basic to the human condition that all else will become insignificant until they are met. Jesus applied this reality to behavior by saying in Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."

Meaning, that if you treat the desire for "right action" (righteousness) as if it were absolutely essential to your survival, then you will never find yourself lacking the ability to do it. Obedience will be as natural as eating lunch and doing the right thing as ordinary as drinking a cold glass of lemonade on a scorching July 4th holiday.

So, the next time deviant temptation prompts your mind to dwell on thoughts like, "It's ok to sin, you're only human...", remember the unparalleled banquet of obedience which chef Jesus has set before you, and grub out! Bon Appétit! Live right, live well…
