Serving by Night

by Brett Fuller on December 27, 2021

Psalm 134:1-3 says, "Behold, bless the LORD, all servants of the LORD, who serve by night in the house of the LORD!  2 Lift up your hands to the sanctuary and bless the LORD.  3 May the LORD bless you from Zion, He who made heaven and earth."

Our walk with Jesus is not as illuminated as we would like. Often, we don't know what to do, where to go or how to process. In moments like this, the shortest Psalm in scripture is a great help.

The writer first states there is a blessing for all who serve God in darkness. In fact by using the "night shifts" of service in the temple as a metaphor, he intimates that not even "scheduled" dark moments should be feared.

His prescription for our poor "night vision" is to...

  1. Bless the Lord (worship)
  2. Lift up our hands (surrender)
  3. Get to wherever "Zion" (the church) is and receive the blessing which God distributes through His people.

See, even in dark times God helps us to live right and live well...
