Quality Control

by Brett Fuller on April 26, 2021

God made our bodies to house His presence so we might fellowship and labor with Him at the deepest level. However, if our bodies are not functioning optimally, we can become limited in our effectiveness.

In 1Timothy 4:8, Paul tells Timothy that, "bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come." The word "little"- "oligos", in Greek is also translated as "temporary", which in this context, I believe is a better word choice. For Paul is contrasting that which lasts, from that which doesn't. In that light, bodily disciplines don't extend beyond our, "blink of the eye" life span. Nevertheless, they do profit us while we are here. Proper diet, exercise & rest all serve to make the quality of our service to God exponentially better.

So, while you're here, begin to enjoy the little profit which comes from bodily discipline and watch how much richer both you and all around you become. Live right, live well...
