Overcoming Temptation

In Matthew 4, Jesus was taken to the temple where the enemy tempted Him to jump from its pinnacle by saying, “…the angels will give charge concerning you so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.” 

The pinnacle was the highest point in the temple and metaphorically represented the highest "spiritual position" on earth. The temptation: to woo Christ to believe His high rank afforded Him unusually high privilege, thereby gifting Him more powerfully than others to pridefully step outside the boundaries of God’s protection. In essence, the enemy was saying, "You are so big & powerful that You can do anything and not suffer the consequences.” Confidently, Christ overcame this temptation, responding with the Word of God by saying, “It is also written, “You shall not put the Lord God to the test.’” So should we...
