Overcoming Envy

by Brett Fuller on September 06, 2021

In Daniel 2 Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon had a dream which troubled him. He informed his do-nothing wise men that they, under threat of death, were to both reveal the nature of his dream and its interpretation.

Daniel was a servant of the king. Yet because the king's counselors were envious of the unusual favor bestowed upon him by the king, he never received Nebuchadnezzar’s order. As the deadline approached, the magicians requested more time from the king. Denying their request, the king was so roused with anger over their ineptitude; he ordered they be immediately executed.

When they came to arrest uninformed Daniel, he requested time to seek God so that he might fulfill the king's command. His request was granted. God then revealed to Daniel both the dream and its interpretation, saving every counselor's life.

Envy will dummy down even the wisest of men. So stupefied were Babylonian counselors that they would have rather died than see Daniel succeed. Don't let the proposition of another's progress stop you from LIVING right and LIVING well...
