Love As Christ Loves

by Brett Fuller on March 16, 2020

In Leviticus 19:18, God said to the people of Israel, "...love your neighbor as yourself". Though praiseworthy would the believer have been who fulfilled this command, Jesus raised the bar to a whole new level. He said in John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another."

This commandment was not "new" in its nature but "new" in its scope. Jesus understood well, that loving your neighbor as you have loved yourself was good. However, since most folks didn't love themselves properly, the filter through which they brought care to others needed to be changed. If now, the matrix through which they brought care for others was God's care for them, then subjectivity could be removed, and all men could be treated properly by all men. In short, love can have its intended effect if we were to love our neighbor in the same way He (Christ) loves us!

Today, find a way to step up your devotion to someone else by remembering how much and how well God has loved you. Love right, love well.
