Looking for Christ

by Brett Fuller on December 23, 2019

Though I knew Christmas was about the birth of Christ, when I was a kid, I was more focused on what Santa would bring me. I can remember getting up well before dawn to see if I could catch him putting presents under the tree.

During the first Christmas there was an aged righteous man named Simeon. Luke 2:25 says he was, "looking for the consolation of Israel..." On the day Christ was to be dedicated in the temple, Simeon happened to be there. Because of his expectation, Simeon was able to recognize the Christ child from the other children being dedicated without naturally knowing Jesus or his parents. Once identified, Simeon broke out into praise and prophecy. He knew this was the One for who he had been kept alive all these years.

For all of my early risings, I was never rewarded with a view of St. Nick. However, on a serendipitous morning at the turn of the first millennium AD, Simeon arose looking for Christ, and because he did, his eyes were opened to see what others could not.

What are you looking for this Christmas? May God open your eyes to see Jesus like you’ve never seen Him before. Live right, live well...
