Leaning Towards the Promise

by Brett Fuller on September 20, 2021

In 2 Timothy 1:1 Paul identifies himself as, "...an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus."

When penning this letter, Paul was near the finishing line of life. He had run his course well and was prepared to enter heaven leaning at the tape. Thus, the emphasis on defining his apostolic ministry according to the "promise of life..."

Unlike Paul, most of us don't find ourselves on the precipice of entering "Glory". However, we all should be on the precipice of entering something. Our service to God should not be relegated to mere responsible behavior or cold obedience. Like Paul, we should be governing our lives believing that God is going to affirm our compliance with the fulfillment of some "promise" of His. It could be according to the promise of abundance found in 2Corinthians 9:6-11 and Philippians 4:19. Or the promise of His presence found in Matthew 28:20. Or even the promise of a blessed life found in Deuteronomy 28:1-14.

Today, decide to govern your life according to God's promises. If you do, you will live right and live well.
