Kingdom Citizens

by Brett Fuller on July 10, 2017

Traveling internationally means entering into a foreign culture. To the natives, the food, drink and language are all natural and normal. To the visitor, everything is unusual and sometimes distasteful.

Peter understood the dynamics of cross cultural assimilation. His insight inspired him to metaphorically use the “foreigner” concept to explain how Christians should view themselves in relationship to the world.  He said in 1Pet 2:11 “Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.”

When we were born again (John 3:3-7), we were translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of God (Col 1:13). Paul said in Eph 2:19 that with respect to our heavenly alliance we are, “…fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household.” Therefore being citizens of God’s kingdom, we are foreigners in this world thus making things in it unusual and distasteful.

So, when the world prepares a banquet of fleshly enticements, remind yourself that home cooking always taste best. Live right and live well…
