Intently Abide

by Brett Fuller on May 17, 2021

James 1:23-25 emphasizes the productivity that comes from obedience to God's word.  It says, 23 "For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.  25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does."

The verbal bridge which allows folk to go from being hearers only, to effectual doers is, "...one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it..." While the hearer glances at the word to acknowledge its importance, the doer, in order to become productive, intensifies his gaze to acknowledge his for its influence.

Our productivity is inexorably bound to our Biblical obedience. So let's intently abide in His Word and give God the bumper crop He deserves. Live right, live well...
