Humility, Service & Blessings

by Brett Fuller on February 08, 2021

In John 13, Jesus instructs on humility, service and being blessed. His teaching point came as He knelt to wash the disciple's feet. Now, this customary and necessary service was usually performed by the lowest servant in the house, yet Christ was unashamed to identify with the lowly.

As His disciples looked incredulously upon him, He said in vs. 14 & 17 "If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet... 17 If now you know these things, you are blessed if you do them."

Now, the custom of foot washing is no longer relevant (we don't often wear sandals while walking on dirt streets) but the principle still is. We Christians are to serve the world and each other by thinking no task is beneath us. If “foot washing” means cutting our neighbor's grass, shoveling the snow off their property or paying for their car to get detailed- we are called to serve.

So, since Christ embedded a blessing in every act of service, go get yours! Live right, live well...
