Honor the Lord

Honor is an understood concept in every culture. In monarchies, a subject would always approach the Sovereign in a posture of submission, never look them in the eye or leave the way he came. In Asia, ancestors are revered in mystical ways and the aged are highly respected. Differing methods notwithstanding, if proper tribute is to be given, the honorer must submit to the standards set by the honoree's culture.

God has prescribed some ways in which He would like to be honored. One is found in Proverbs 3:9-10 which says, "Honor the LORD from your wealth and from the first of all your produce; 10 So your barns will be filled with plenty and your vats will overflow with new wine."

God is not revered when we treat Him like the Salvation Army by giving Him what we have leftover or have used up. He wants the best, first. The reciprocal benefit being: if we honor Him with our best, He will reward us with His abundance thereby helping us to live right, live well...
