In John 10:27 Jesus likens Himself to a shepherd and His people to sheep. He says, "My sheep hear My voice..."
The beauty depth of this passage can get lost in its simple construction. To have the privilege of being under the watchful care of history's most competent care provider, supplies an ever understated security. Secondly, all of His sheep have the privilege of hearing His voice. If His voice is not discernable to you, ask yourself three questions:
- Am I His?
- Am I sheep-like?
- Do I have a hearing problem...?
...all of which can be easily addressed.
The characteristic of a "Christian sheep" is that unlike cattle they don't brand well. They are best identified by their shepherd. Solution: become Christ's.
The characteristic which distinguishes sheep from goats is their reliance on the shepherd. Sheep don't fare well or last long on their own. Solution: become Christ dependent.
Lastly, if you are not hearing His voice, read your bible everyday and become so familiar with His voice that you could recognize it even if the world were shouting at you. Baaah right, baaah well...
