Forgiveness

by Brett Fuller on December 02, 2019

Human life is precious because we are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26). Taking a life is a heinous act. In Exodus 20:13 God said, "You shall not murder.” Murder permanently separates a husband from his wife, a wife from her husband, a son from his parents, a brother from his siblings. The effects of many sins can be reversed— not murder.

Jesus said in Matthew 15:19, “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders…” So closely did He relate the heart to the act, that His judgment began with internal evidence saying in Matthew 5:21-22," You have heard that the ancients were told…'Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.' 22" But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court…”

Hate intends to permanently turn a husband from his wife, a mother from her husband, a son from his parents, a brother from his siblings. Of the many sins which can be reversed— hatred is among the most difficult. May God help us to forgive those who have injured us as we have been forgiven by God. Live right, live well…
