Contrary Circumstances: Inviting Jesus In

Have you ever worked twice as hard to get half as far? In Mark 6 Jesus commanded the disciples to go ahead of Him to the other side of the lake while He remained behind to pray. Straining at the oars, for the winds & waves were contrary, the disciples spent most of the night closer to their launch point than their destination.

 After prayer Jesus, rather than walking the shoreline, decided to take the shortcut. He famously strolled across the lake! Intending to pass His staff by, the disciples were startled by what they believed to be a ghost. Identifying Himself, Jesus calmed their fears. They immediately invited Him in the boat. Verse 51 says that when they did so, “…the winds stopped."

Question: In your efforts to try to get to where Christ wants you to be, have you been straining against unusually contrary circumstances? If so, freshly ask Jesus into the boat of your endeavors and see if His presence doesn't make the sailing much smoother. Live right, live well...
