An Extraordinary Friendship

by Brett Fuller on May 28, 2018

Acquaintances are numerous, home-boys (girls) are fewer but friends are rare. In reflecting on better days, Job says in Job 29:4 “Oh, for the days when I was in my prime, when the friendship of God was over my tent.”

Job was a man of influence. When he spoke, people listened. He was a businessman using camel for his international affairs and donkey for his domestic. Sheep and camel both supplied needed material for his textile company and oxen his agrarian interests. He was the lead appointee to the Chamber of Commerce and he adjudicated major disputes. The favor of God dripped from his garments. It was easy to see why he knew God was his friend.

When unusual difficulty came, Job wrongly concluded he had become the Lord’s adversary and that the friendship was over. Truth was, God was still his friend, but he was testing Job to see if he would, in adversity still befriend God? Though tried, Job maintained his integrity and loved God through his pain.

May you make friendship less rare as God finds a friend in you. Live right, live well…
