At the time of Christ's birth, the heavens announced His advent with a sign, a "new star". The wise men from the east let this star guide them to the region in which Jesus was born. When the star was no longer visible, they came to Jerusalem to inquire saying in Matt 2:2, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him."
These men came from approximately 700 miles to worship a king, not their own and to offer Him untold treasure, on the basis of a star which took months of study to determine from whence it came. Now, 'till something better comes along, I think this should qualify as an "extraordinary commitment".
In comparison with the number of signs He has given us (His resurrection, testimonies of those in relationship with Him, miracles He's done for you) how much effort have we made to come and worship Jesus? Whatever the answer might be, let these wise men inspire us to offer Him our best this Christmas season. Live right, live well...
