A Renewed Commitment

In Mark 11:12-14, Jesus saw a fig tree at a distance presenting itself as fruitful. Arriving, He found it barren for it was not the normal season for figs. He therefore said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again!" 

Now, on the surface Christ's actions might seem over reactive. However, though it was not the usual season for figs, it was common for fig trees to bear fruit twice a year. This one, giving the appearance of health, allowed Christ to use it as an object lesson for any who wondered about His disposition concerning fruitfulness.

A healthy relationship with God is not just defined by outward appearance- how we present ourselves, but by fruitfulness- what we present to Him.

In that light, it might be good for us to reassess our relationship with the Lord. Rather than just coming with a smiling face and a "hallelujah" on our lips, we should renew our commitment to approach Him with fruitful lives; because we have learned to live right and live well...
