The Character Building Moments

by Brett Fuller on September 28, 2020

In 1Corinthians 7:17-24 Paul addresses hard situations in which people might find themselves. Focusing on difficult marriages & work related issues, he twice summarizes his comments with, "Each man must remain in that condition in which he was called." Tough words for people living in tough times.

Why might Paul give this wisdom? Well contextually the Corinthians were an unrestrained people who needed boundaries to order their chaos. However, there might be a different and infinitely more rewarding reason. Paul knew there was something they needed to "get out" of the experience before they "got out" of the experience?

Rarely is character forged in the cool breeze of abundance, but in the fires of difficulty. Paul was not advocating that we search out tough times, or that we entrench ourselves in them until Christ returns- but that if we find ourselves in difficult moments, we make sure we mine out of them the buried treasure of character.

So, when you find yourself between a rock and a hard place, get out of the experience all God desires for you to get, before you get out of the experience! Live right, live well...
