The Aroma of Victory

by Brett Fuller on February 27, 2017

In 2 Cor 2:12-13, Paul recounts leaving Mysia, planning to go to Asia Minor, but was prohibited from doing so by the Lord. Unclear regarding next steps, he visits Troas only to find his co-worker Titus not in place. Not knowing if something untoward had happened to him, Paul is restless. Yet in verse 14 he breaks out of his agitation. Recalling God’s faithfulness he says, “…thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place.”

Disappointment is a part of life. Having our plans disrupted or realizing the people are not where they should be happens more often than not. Paul teaches us how a faith-filled perspective should not let discouragement live in our homes.

So, when loss appears in the form of people who are late to arrive at their spiritual destination or in the form of redirected plans, let your faith remind you of Christ’ triumph into which you are presently being led. Then rather than smelling like defeat, you manifest the aroma of victory. Live right, live well…
