What Goes Around...

The book of Obadiah is directed toward the nation of Edom, Esau’s descendants. It is a book pronouncing God’s judgment for their harsh treatment of Israel.

Esau was Jacob’s twin brother. After centuries passed, the congenial relationship between brothers had become a adversarial relationship between nations. When Edom had the opportunity he crushed Israel. Fraternal ties being long forgotten, they were ruthless in their domination.

Men may have short memories but God forgets nothing. In His indignation the Lord reminded Edom, through the prophet Obadiah, from whence they came. He also informed them in Obadiah 1:15 that when He draws near all the nations for judgment, “…As you have done, it will be done to you. Your dealings will return on your own head.”

The Lord deals with nations just as He does individuals. “What goes around, comes around.” Let us keep this in mind as we interpersonally relate and as we pray for our country, so we can all better live right and live well…
