What Is Baptism?
Christian baptism is a public declaration of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and an act of obedience to His call (Acts 2:38). Through baptism, followers of Jesus identify with His death and resurrection (Colossians 2:12).
As a believer is immersed in water, it symbolizes the death of their old life apart from Christ (Romans 6:3). Rising from the water represents new life in Christ, a life marked by transformation and hope (Romans 6:4).
At Grace Covenant Church Capitol Hill, baptism is done by full immersion. Baptisms take place during Sunday morning worship services so our church family can witness, celebrate, and affirm this meaningful step of faith.
How Do I Know If I’m Ready?
If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, you are ready to be baptized. Baptism is not reserved for those who have reached a certain level of spiritual maturity. Throughout the New Testament, we see people baptized immediately after coming to faith (Acts 8:38; Acts 16:14–15).
If you have questions or would like to talk more, one of our leaders would be glad to meet with you.
