In Due Season

by Brett Fuller on October 14, 2019

In Proverbs 12:14 Solomon says, “a man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his own words and the deeds of a man’s hands return to him.” A similarly themed passage is Galatians 6:9 which says, “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not grow weary.”

As tough as it might be to sow what we need for sustenance, into a fertile field, it might be harder to wait for the return on the sacrifice. If so, three facts will aid our patience:

  1. Whatever act we performed should have been done from love which is always happy for the doing.
  2. A seed planted always produces more than itself.
  3. The alternative to believing our good deeds will be rewarded is to not believe they will be rewarded. What good does that do?

Though the return on our good words and deeds may be long in coming. patience and a reminder of God’s faithfulness let us know that though the harvest may be later, the harvest is always greater. Live right, live well…
