Letting Jesus Use Your Employment

Posted on September 22, 2008 by Brett Fuller
Category: Influence

In Luke 5:1-7, Jesus is teaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. As the people crowded the shoreline to get close enough to hear the message, Christ turns to fisherman Peter and asks, “Can I use your boat?” Peter replies in the affirmative and then pushes Him a short distance out into the water. Jesus, knowing the water would reflect His words thereby amplifying His voice, then began to teach. As a result of the message, folks were unalterably changed for the better. You may not be an ordained minister but, like Peter, your occupation can be used to help proclaim the gospel to people in your sphere of influence? Let God inspire you as to how you might ethically use your employment as an amplifier for the "good news".

By the way, if you keep reading – as a result of using Peter’s boat, Jesus says, “go out in it (the Sea of Galilee) now, you yourself, and cast your net on the other side.” Peter compliance resulted in the greatest catch of fish in the history of their business. I wonder how God might bless your occupation, if you allow Him to use the boat of your profession for the proclamation of the gospel? Just a thought… Live right, live well...
